Dmitry Kalinin, who graduated from the Gnessins State Musical Academy as a Balalaika performer and Folk orchestra conductor, and the Moscow State Conservatory as an Opera and Symphony conductor is well known in Russia and abroad.

Dmitry is a laureate of many prestigious National and International competitions. For a long time he performed with the leading folk orchestras and worked with such conductors as Vladimir Fedoseyev, S. Skripka, N. Nekrasov. Dmitry Kalinin now plays in the best halls all over Russia and abroad, including «Suntory Hall» (Tokyo) , «Minato Mirai» (Yokohama), «Merano Hall» (Italy), the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, the Chaikovsky Concert Hall, MMDM Svetlanov Hall, the Crocus City Hall, etc.

He performed the balalaika in more than 30 films, such as: «The Barber of Siberia», «The Tender Age», «The New Bremen Town Musicians», «Under the North Star», «Hot Saturday», «Again, I must live», «Kolkhoz», «Betancour», «And Quiet Flows the Don», «The State Counsellor», «Doctor Zhivago», etc. Dmitry was involved in the Russian bards projects — T. Shaov, Gladkov and I. Rosa band. He participated in recording the radio play «Bobyl» (D.V. Grigorovich) and musical parts for plays and TV programs. His recent work is recording parts in the opera E.Artemyev «Raskolnikov» and Shostakovich’s opera «Balda» for Deutsche Grammophon, conductor Thomas Sanderling.

Today Dmitry Kalinin is one of the most exciting balalaika performers. His live performances and master classes find great success in Russia and abroad (Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Turkey, Czech Republic, Montenegro, Sweden, Finland).

He is also the soloist in the Moscow State Philharmonic, a member of the Moscow Musical Society and the musical director of the nomination «Balalaika-Domra» of the International Arts Olympic in Moscow. Dmitry has a diploma from the Irina Arkhipova Foundation «For creative contribution to the development of Russian musical culture».

He has been awarded gratitude from the Russian Minister of Culture «For musical merit and high mastery.»
